Thanks for this share. For those that know little about mindfulness or use of it in dementia, can you share a little about some core principles, particularly how one can apply mindfulness when the mind is being affected by memory loss.

Tired of sitting to nurture mindfulness - we already sit a lot. How about Karate as a way to liberate the mind?

The research seems to back up Karate for its therapeutic potential. In a study by Oulanova (2007; tandfonline.com…nalCode=tbmd20 ) suggests to incorporate karate in psychological interventions, because Karate increases body awareness, enhances harmony and overall mental unification. It is not just Karate that can have therapeutic value; yoga and Tai Chi have also been shown to be of value. In a study of Tai Chi Chih and CBT-I (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia; Irwin, et al, 2017) both were found to produce clinically meaningful improvements and with Tai Chi Chih being equal to CBT-I. (ncbi.nlm.nih.go…ubmed/28489508). Tai Chi Chuan & Baduanjin have also been associated with increased brain grey matter volume leading to improved mental control, recognition, touch, & comprehension memory in older adults; both are recommended as a preventative of memory deficits in older adults (Tao, et al, 2017; ncbi.nlm.nih.go…ubmed/28869478).
