My experience has been that the initial reaction is relief. It feels wonderful to focus on yourself and the other people in your llife. But after a period of time, life seems mundane and the feeling of doing something of value is missing.

My Dad passed April 7th - Mom and I were there every day to visit for months and months until the end. Actually, Mom forced Dad to leave his world of shop, garage, everything for her 6 years ago! He never complained, just wasted away with his own cancer in the condo! Now she is in a retirement home and her dementia is really worse - poor me - no one phones her she goes - I don't know how much pity I can muster with Mom who is kind of all about her, and now dillusional where my Dad is not dead, but taking other woman out etc.
